Role: Director/Editor
Project Description:
At the agency I've been working for, I've built my career as a content creator and editor, I've been actively pursuing the opportunity to step into a director role. To showcase my potential and unique directorial style, the agency asked for a proof of concept. Drawing on my extensive experience in various production roles, including editing and post-production supervision, I chose to undertake an ambitious project. I created a speculative advertisement for an imaginary luxury cologne brand. This project was not just a demonstration of my skills but also a platform to express my creative vision and directorial prowess, marking my transition into a new realm of storytelling and brand building.
Challenges & Solutions:
Faced with the challenge of creating a narrative driven entirely by visual elements, I embraced the opportunity to merge my storytelling abilities with my technical skills as an editor. The outcome is a spot that tells its story purely through visuals, where everything, except the actors, is crafted using visual effects.
At the heart of this piece is the story of two lovers, trapped in a void filled with tumultuous noise. Their mutual attraction is the central theme; as they move closer to each other, the chaos around them gradually dissipates. This concept is visually depicted through particles swirling around the lovers, slowly fading away as they come together. To further emphasize the mood of the narrative, I opted for a gothic aesthetic, choosing a monochromatic color palette to deepen the atmosphere and enhance the emotional impact of this visual story.
Techniques & Tools Used:
Adobe Premiere Pro was used throughout all iterations of the edit. Adobe after effects was used for visual effects. Final color/camera effects were done by using Davinci Resolve
