Project Name: Doritos Dips
Client/Production Company: Frito-Lay/1820 Productions
Date: August, 2022
Role: Editor/Content Creator
Project Description:
Frito-Lay's brand, Doritos, introduced their new product line, Doritos Dips, through a series of social media advertisements. These ads featured Keke Palmer as the main star. The aim was to highlight Keke delivering witty jokes while enjoying a variety of foods paired with the two flavors of Doritos Dips.
Challenges & Solutions:
creating seven social media spots, all due for final delivery in less than a week. My role was multifaceted: I served as the DIT, managed assembly edits as footage arrived, and even took on the duties of an assistant editor.
In pre-production, I developed the style, pacing, and music cuts for the edit, utilizing animatics based on the director’s scripts. This preparation was crucial for completing assembly cuts on the same day as the shoot. I also contributed to the scripting, and I'm particularly proud of the line, “I’ll give you a dip for a tip.” While the client provided basic scripts, they relied on our agency to inject clever humor into the final product.
The music selected for these spots was “Big Energy” by Latto, provided by the client. I received the track along with all its stems, which allowed me to precisely tailor the music for the final spots.
Techniques & Tools Used:
Adobe Premiere Pro played a pivotal role throughout the editing process. Initially, we utilized it to create an animatic, providing the director with a clear preview of how the edit would align with his scripts. Working closely with Director Korey Miller, we established a comprehensive pre-production process, ranging from scripting to animatics, ensuring we were thoroughly prepared for the shoot. This approach significantly reduced uncertainty before we even set foot on set.
Keke Palmer adhered closely to the scripts during filming, which streamlined the editing process. The final color grading was a collaborative effort with Company3, and the audio mix was expertly finalized at Dallas Audio Post.
Additional Notes:
The Director was so pleased with the on set edits that he gathered the client, Keke Palmer, and all crew to watch the thirty second edit after we wrapped.
